OBSERVATION - PROJECT REPORTS:
You will never see one reporting a failure.

Follow Up Reports on Projects?

Money flows from the USA to many mission areas for so-called "projects." At the beginning, during the fund raising phase, much is seen and heard of each project. But, what happens after the project has been funded, the money has been disbursed, the missionary retires from the area, or moves into a different area of labor, or returns to the USA? Have you ever seen a "Follow Up Report"? It's rare. Most often you only see appeals for more funds for more projects. If you have recently seen any "follow-up reports" please let this observer know.

Most, if not all, projects are supposed to promote economic development, or better health, etc, etc. Most projects fail to achieve these goals. You may see pictures in the mission literature of the local people smiling and the caption says something about how  "Jose" or "Maria" benefit from the project.

Your observer has promoted and been involved in many projects. Raising rabbits and chickens, installing cement outhouse platforms, drilling wells, building bridges, houses, chapels, missionary complexes, giving small business loans, experimenting with solar heat, baked earthen ovens, giving away clothing, medicine, food, medical services, earthquake relief. I'm certain I forgot something! We find that often this humanitarian aid served the giver more than the receiver, and most often caused an opposite effect than what was expected by the donor.

Recently your observer interviewed many project recipients in various mission areas, and most often has found only apathy and/or resentment.

Studying followup project reports would be "doing missiology" and not many missionaries or mission organizations care to do that.
