OBSERVATION - WHAT HAPPENED TO MISSIONARY TRAINING?
The Hot and Cold Topic, (it seems).

The issue of training people to be missionaries, and then giving them mentoring and guidelines, has run hot and then cold in mission circles. Some organizations seem to send out any warm body. Others have in the past established missionary training schools, done six-month sessions, two-week sessions, etc. Some seminaries offer "missions" courses, but from comments by recent grads, one wonders how practical these courses are. Most of the profs, if they have mission experience, got it years ago. Most of the text books are 10-20 years out of date. And most of the information found here in these Observations is seldom, if ever, discussed in class!

This next link is something we presented a few years back. What a wannabe missionary should consider when it comes to on-site leadership training. Take a look at LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN OUTLINE.

And it is most important to emphasize that this missionary training should be education to be educators, not merely missionaries taking care of real estate and investments in a foreign country. Look at something we put together in 1993. THE TRAINING OF MISSION WORKERS FOR THE KAZAKHSTAN MISSION
