In the 1970s your observer asked his fellow missionaries to answer this question: "How much time do you actually spend in evangelization?" They were to write an estimate on a piece of paper, these were filed. Each missionary was asked to keep a log of daily activities. After a month these logs were analyzed and compared to the estimates. To the surprise of all, the average was 5%. The missionary used 5% of his or her time in evangelization. All the estimates were must higher.
We repeated the experiment in another mission area in the 1980s, and again in the 1990s. Each time the results were similar. 95% of the missionary's time was spent in non-evangelistic efforts. If you want to know more, ask a missionary to tell you how he or she spends their time. Ask them for their daily activity log. Not the log of the one day of the week they go "out to a village," but the average.
5% was also my average.
Can you guess some of the reasons for the 95/5 Factor?
