Why Robes? Why do those who preach and lead the liturgy during a church service wear a robe? Is it necessary? Yes and no. The Bible does not require pastors to wear robes. Nor do the Lutheran Confessions. And, wearing robes in no way implies that the person is holier or closer to God than other people. In the Old Testament God gave liturgical requirements, look at Exodus 28. But, in the New Testament there are no regulations for clergy clothing.
