The name "Ano Nuevo" indicates that the invasion of this rocky sandy hillside took place on New Year's Day, probably around 1968. The first squatters threw up simple shelters, made of matted reeds. If the officials did not chase them off, the people soon put up brick and concrete buildings. A barriada was always in stages of construction. This little place was right next to the Mother's Club.
